Joan Truckenbrod (b. 1945) is an American artist recognized as a pioneering figure in digital art. Since the 1960s, she has explored the intersection of technology, handcraft, and ritual, becoming one of the earliest artists to use computer programming-specifically FORTRAN-to create algorithmic drawings and digital textiles. Truckenbrod’s practice integrates hand construction with electronic imagery, producing works that visualize natural phenomena, memory, and the simultaneous experience of multiple realities.
